Angelovska-Bezoska: We expect interest rates to go up, attempts are being made to moderate it
The interest rates are expected to go up, but attempts are being made to moderate it and not to significantly affect the population and the corporate sector, said today the Governor of the National Bank, Anita Angelovska-Bejoska.
Answering reporters' questions after the announcement of the spring macroeconomic projections, the governor said that the tightening of monetary policy is done carefully and moderately so that there are no sudden changes in active interest rates.
- In the global financial markets for some time now there has been an upward shift in interest rates. We are part of the global trade and financial system and what is happening in the global economy has an impact on us as well. Therefore, as a central bank, we started tightening the monetary policy, but we do it carefully and more moderately in order to avoid sudden changes in the active interest rates, said Angelovska-Bezoska.
The National Bank doubled the key interest rate by 0,25 percentage points and it is now at the level of 1,75 percent.
