The Balkans have been marked in recent months by a return to tensions from the past that, years after the break-up of the former Yugoslav federation, have failed to stabilize.

Apart from Kosovo, whose status is not yet clearly defined, that is, it has the support of only one part of the international community that recognizes statehood, but which does not allow membership in international organizations, the federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina remains the scene of possible conflict. In the past, the public has witnessed louder announcements by Bosnian Serb representative and member of the rotating BiH presidency Milorad Dodik, who is dissatisfied with the way the federal government works in Bosnia, but also irritated by the decision of the international representative in Sarajevo on the status of Republika Srpska. , started advocating for Republika Srpska to leave the federation.

The first step, of course, was his announcement to form his own army, the police to be under the direct jurisdiction of Banja Luka, and soon R Srpska to receive its own intelligence service. Until that happens, Dodik and members of his party, who hold office in federal institutions in Sarajevo, have begun boycotting their work. His militant rhetoric was immediately retaliated by the representative of the Bosnian Muslims, Bakir Izetbegovic, who completely rejects Dodik's intentions and reminds that both Banja Luka and the entire Republic of Macedonia. Serbia is Bosnia and Herzegovina.

And when one might think that these leaders have solid intentions and above all a plan and when to realize all this, while using all available means, it seems that the international community, ie the United States, intervened. A new ambassador has been sent to Sarajevo, a 30-year-old diplomat who participated in the 1996 Dayton Peace Accords. The new special envoy for the Balkans, Escobar, along with other diplomats in the region, has launched coordinated diplomatic actions aimed at easing tensions. The danger of an escalation of the situation in Kosovo and incidents with Pristina police raids and blockades of Kosovo Serbs was first stopped. Now it is Bosnia and Herzegovina's turn to reduce the tensions that its leaders are provoking with their rhetoric.

But US mediation in Bosnia and Herzegovina seems to be yielding some results.

Milorad Dodik, a member of the BiH Presidency, met with Croatian President Zoran Milanovic. According to the statement, the meeting of Croatian President Milanovic with Dodik is a continuation of the activities of the President of Croatia for the purpose of stability and functioning of Bosnia and Herzegovina and achieving legitimate representation of all three constituent peoples in accordance with the Dayton Accords.

"To that end, President Milanovic previously had meetings with Bakir Izetbegovic, a representative of the Bosniak people, and Dragan Covic, a representative of the Croatian people in Bosnia and Herzegovina." the statement said.

What is strange in this whole meeting are the statements from not so long ago when Dodik accused Croatia and its President Milanovic that they plan to be the first to oust Republika Srpska, and that the Croats together with the Muslims in Bosnia are in a coalition against the Serbs.

Somehow at the same time there are announcements for another, also incredible announcement and initiative, this time Dodik's opponent, Bakir Izetbegovi,, who announces that he plans to meet with the Serbian President Aleksandar Vuќi но but that "he will not lose the crown of head "if he travels to Belgrade and talks to Vucic there.
The embarrassment of this statement is interpreted due to the fact that it was Bakir Izetbegovi обви who accused Vuќi дека of leading in Serbian politics and supporting Dodik and the Bosnian Serbs to secede from Bosnia. Izetbegovic openly accuses Vucic of seeking to dismember Bosnia and Herzegovina, secede from Republika Srpska and annex it to Serbia as compensation for a lost Kosovo.

Now the same Izetbegovic announces meetings and a trip to Belgrade, which only indicates that the new American "bulldozer diplomacy" has started working, ie calming the latest political tensions as a result of the disintegration of the former SFRY.
