US Vice President Vance meets with AfD leader, gives her support ahead of German election

US Vice President J.D. Vance met today with Alice Weidel, the chairwoman of the German far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party. reported local media.

The meeting took place at a hotel in Munich, where Vance is participating in the annual Munich Security Conference.

Earlier, in his address to the conference, Vance criticized the strategy of German parties that "try to isolate the AfD" and made sharp remarks about democratic processes in Europe, which was met with reactions from European representatives.

The meeting between Vance and Weidel comes just a week before Germany's parliamentary elections, scheduled for February 23.
