Seven years after starting operations in Milan, the American chain Domino's pizza has left Italy after failing to win over Italians.

The fast food giant has closed the last of its 29 stores on the Apennine Peninsula, after a struggle to position itself in the country proved difficult to win over its population.

Dominos arrived in Italy in 2015 and planned to win over citizens with "purely Italian" ingredients.

The company's plans to "lure" Italians with pizza delivery have been ruined by the pandemic, after domestic pizzerias also turned to address delivery en masse due to restrictions aimed at preventing the spread of the coronavirus.
