US police are looking for a serial killer in California
Five murders of the past few months seem to be the work of one person, the police department of Stockton, a city in the US state of California, reported some of the world's media.
The first murder was committed on July 8, all the victims were male and were alone when they were killed at night or in the early hours of the morning.
None of those killed were robbed, nor were they connected to drugs or gangs.
Police claim they also have physical evidence linking the five crime scenes.
They did not publicly identify any of the victims, but a family member of the fifth, Lorenzo Lopez, spoke up.
- He was just a person who happened to be there in the wrong place at the wrong time in the wrong circumstances, his brother Jerry Lopez told "KHTV".
Greta Bogow confirmed to ABC News that her son Paul Alexander Jay, who was 35, was killed on July 8.
– He was a good boy who grew into a good man with a big heart. He will always live in our hearts. He was always there for you if you needed him. I still can't believe he's not coming back. I hope this will help catch the killer, Bogou said.
The city of Stockton said it is offering an $85.000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the killer.
After Lopez's murder, Stockton police said at a press conference that they were not sure the murders were related.
– We are still looking at it from a random point of view, but we notice some similarities. "We have absolutely no evidence that would lead us to believe that one person is on the rampage in the city of Stockton killing people," said Police Chief Stanley McFadden.
However, that changed two days later when the five murders were linked and a photo of the person suspected of the crimes was released.
