The Americans shot down an "unidentified flying object" at high altitude over Alaska
For now, an unidentified flying object, which was flying at a high altitude over the US state of Alaska, was shot down by fighters of the US Air Force, the authorities said.
A White House spokesman John Kirby said the object was "the size of a small car" and was over a sparsely populated area at the time it fell. A military pilot approached the plane and made sure that there was no crew in the aircraft, and President Joe Biden had this information when he gave the order to shoot down the object.
"President Joe Biden made the decision to shoot down the object of unknown origin," Kirby said.
Last Saturday, the United States shot down a Chinese spy balloon over its territorial waters, accusing Beijing of a massive balloon spying program in 40 countries around the world.
Speaking at the White House, Kirby said the new object over Alaska was hovering at an altitude of just over 12.000 meters and could have posed a threat to civilian aircraft.
He added that the debris surface of this new object is "much, much smaller than the balloon that went down last week off the coast of South Carolina."
