Aleksandar Nikoloski elected rapporteur for Bosnia and Herzegovina by the Council of Europe

The deputy of VMRO-DPMNE and member of the Macedonian delegation in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), Aleksandar Nikoloski has been elected as the rapporteur for Bosnia and Herzegovina by the Council of Europe. This is the first time a Macedonian evaluates the progress of another country.

Nikoloski was elected by the PSCE Monitoring Committee. This means that in the next period he will monitor the progress of Bosnia and Herzegovina in the area of fulfilling the obligations that this country has undertaken towards the Council of Europe, primarily in the area of respect for basic human rights, the rule of law, the fight against crime and corruption, electoral reforms, as well as the establishment of a functional legal state.

– This is a huge honor for me. But at the same time, it is a recognition for Macedonia, because a Macedonian MP is finally in a position to write reports and report on what is happening in other countries, and not just Macedonia being under monitoring and others reporting on Macedonia, said Nikoloski after the election.

According to him, this means a lot for Macedonia, for the image of the country, it means that Macedonia can and has politicians who can represent it outside the country. As he says, he will try with all his capacity and with all his authority to do good things for the region, of which Bosnia and Herzegovina is certainly a part.

- I hope that the country will progress and I hope that we will see progress towards a more functional rule of law in Sarajevo and Banja Luka and everywhere we go and in Mostar and other cities, we will see progress towards a harmonized state, we will see progress towards fulfilling the obligations that Bosnia and Herzegovina has towards the Council of Europe, and of course respecting the Dayton Peace Agreement and all other decisions that have been made by the Council of Europe, the EU and the UN for Bosnia and Herzegovina, adds Nikoloski.

According to the PSSE procedure, the selection of the reporter is carried out by the Monitoring Committee by direct voting, and he can be nominated by 10 MPs. It is a practice for the nomination to come from a parliamentary group so that it does not happen that there are nominees from the same parliamentary group.

Otherwise, according to the rules of the Council of Europe, there are two rapporteurs, while respecting the rules that the two are not from the same parliamentary group, that they are not neighboring countries of the one for which they are chosen as rapporteurs, and that they do not have a conflict of interest in relation to the country they will report on. The mandate of reporters is unlimited, that is, as long as they are members of parliament.
