The Albanian Parliament has submitted to the Constitutional Court the decision to dismiss Meta
The Albanian Legislature submitted to the Constitutional Court this afternoon the decision to dismiss President Ilir Meta.
The Constitutional Court has three months to decide whether to consider the case or not, while there is no time limit on when it must complete the trial and make a decision. It should make a final decision whether the findings of the Assembly, for a serious violation of the Constitution by Ilir Meta, are grounded or not.
At the session of the 9th of this month, the parliament with 104 votes decided to dismiss Meta, which means that opposition MPs also voted for his dismissal.
In a lengthy 17-page report containing transcripts of all of Meta's public statements, his posts on social media, before and during the election campaign, the commission of inquiry concluded that the president had seriously violated XNUMX articles of the Constitution.
Meta is Albania's first president to be ousted by parliament for resolving the country's three decades of pluralism.
The head of state declared the decision of the parliament unconstitutional and announced that he will continue to be president until July 22, 2022, the date when his term ends. "The decision to dismiss me is to divert attention from electoral crime," he said.
Meta described the decision as "the last show of the monist parliament" to divert attention from the election crime investigation. He reiterated that he will continue to be president until July 24, 2022, the date when his term ends.
