Albania paid 1,5 million euros for the drafting of the agreement on the sea border with Greece
Last year, the Albanian Government spent about 1,5 million euros for the preparation of the agreement for sending the issue of the sea border with Greece to the International Court of Justice.
The Ministry of Finance revealed the government's decision and the fact that the amount was allocated from the state reserve fund, without detailing which company received the obligation to prepare the text of the contract. The former president of the state, Ilir Meta, also said that there is no official information about this matter, Ora News reported.
According to the same source, the negotiations between Greece and Albania on "dividing the sea" remained at an unclear point, and the parties have so far announced that they will turn to the International Court of Justice to resolve the border points.
Although there is little data from the negotiating group that gained full power in 2018, the Albanian Government has taken concrete steps.
– According to the data from the actual budget in 2021, for the approval of the contract with the subject of consulting services for the drafting of the contract to be concluded between Albania and Greece, for referring the issue of delimitation of maritime areas to the International Court of Justice. The fund was transferred to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs by a government decision of April 4, 2021. Furthermore, through the published tables, it is clarified that another 35 million lek or about 300.000 euros were given to the National Agency of Information Society, the television states.
It also recalls that due to the stalling of the case, there was a long-distance clash between former President Meta and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Greece, Nikos Dendias, who stated that "the head of the Albanian state became an obstacle to send the case to court".
But in response, Meta said that he did not become an obstacle, but that he asked for clarification from Prime Minister Edi Rama, but he did not receive the same. Now the signature to continue the process will have to be given by the new president Bajram Begay.
