Albania launches investigation into death of four Russian tourists in sauna staying in Ohrid the day before
The Albanian prosecutor's office announced today that it has opened an investigation into the murder in the hotel sauna on the occasion of the death of four Russian citizens who were found dead on October 15 in a hotel in the village of Keret, 50 km from Tirana, writes Panorama.
The four Russians, a man and a woman, their daughter and son-in-law, were initially thought to have died of suffocation, but the circumstances were unclear and the official court report was not released.
The Russians were staying in Ohrid the day before they arrived on the Albanian coast, and one of the possible reasons for the sudden death was that they had been poisoned with food or possibly consumed psychotropic substances. At the request of the Russian Embassy in Tirana, Russian experts were also involved in the investigation.
Prosecutors, however, said they had registered the case as murder and added that they were evaluating the evidence and testimonies of witnesses.
The deceased are Natalia Burenkova (58), Sergei Burenkov (60), Ekaterina Burenkova (31) and Nikita Belousov (37).
