Al Jazeera to sue Israel in Hague over murder of journalist Abu Akleh
The news network Al Jazeera announced that it would file a lawsuit with the International Criminal Court in The Hague for the murder of her journalist Shirin Abu Akleh during an Israeli raid on the occupied West Bank.
The Qatari-based network and the Palestinian Authority have accused Israeli troops of deliberately killing Abu Akleh on May 11 in the city of Jenin, and Israel has dismissed the allegations as an "obvious lie."
Israeli officials say the journalist was killed during an armed conflict between Israeli troops and Palestinian extremists, and that only a ballistic analysis of the Palestinian Authority's bullet can determine who fired the deadly shot. Al Jazeera announced last night that it has formed an international legal team to prepare the documentation that should be submitted to the court.
The International Criminal Court in The Hague last year launched an investigation into potential Israeli war crimes in the Palestinian territories.
