British actor Julian Sands (65) disappeared last Friday while hiking on Mt Baldy in California, the San Bernardino Sheriff's Office said.

After losing all trace of him on January 13, rescuers went out to search for Sands, but because of bad weather and the threat of an avalanche, they had to stop the search, said Gloria Huerta, a spokeswoman for the sheriff's office, CNN reported.

Officials continued the search drones, but even that is limited due to time, she added.

The San Bernardino Sheriff's Office recently warned hikers to avoid Baldy Mountain due to high winds and ice.

In a post on Facebook, she stated that in the previous four weeks, rescue teams responded 14 times to that mountain and the surrounding area.

“These rescue missions were for lost, stranded or injured climbers. Unfortunately, during the previous four weeks, two climbers did not survive the fall. "The recent snow and ice storms are not good for hikers, even those who think they are very experienced," the sheriff's office said.

In the last four weeks, the police and other services received 14 calls for help from Mount Baldy and the surrounding area.

Authorities are telling hikers to "think twice and heed warnings" due to adverse weather conditions.

Sands is famous for movies "Room with a view", "Death Fields", "Leaving Las Vegas", and one of the last roles was in the series "What/If" on Netflix.
