The President of the state Stevo Pendarovski suggests that if the referendum on the negotiation framework for the EU announced by the opposition is held, then the referendum question should read "Do you want to go to the EU under these conditions?".

Pendarovski stated this in interview for the weekly "Focus".

- As far as I understand, the question will not be about the constitutional changes, but it will be about the bilateral agreement with Bulgaria and why it is included. If someone does not understand that this bilateral agreement, and also with Greece, is the axis along which we continue towards Europe, and wants it to be gone, it is honorable that the referendum question reads: "Do you want to go to the EU under these conditions?". Without mentioning agreements, points... The opposition should come up with an honest wording and if that is the issue, all parties should go to a referendum, not boycott - says Pendarovski in the interview.

He proposes to lower the threshold of 50 percent plus 1 of the registered voters.

- Let's lower the threshold of 50 plus 1 of the registered voters and let it be only from those who want to vote that day. The government and the opposition should change the Referendum Law, clean the voter list according to what is a new census, and I assure you that a significant part will be "in favor" of the EU, just as I maintain that the majority of the real electorate voted positively in the referendum on Prespa – says Pendarovski.

The idea of ​​a referendum was announced by the leader of VMRO-DPMNE after the Macedonian side accepted the French proposal.
