If the USA found evidence for Grubi and Bedzeti, Macedonian institutions can too

Despite the suspicions of corruption for Grubi and judge Bezheti, which were confirmed by the updated "black list", it has not yet been announced to the public that the Prosecutor's Office is conducting any proceedings against either Grubi or judge Bezheti.

The US State Department put the former vice prime minister on the "black list". Artan Grubi and the judge in the Court of Appeal Enver Bexheti for taking bribes to make "mass wiretapping" obsolete, a case in which the former head of UBK was accused, Sasho Mijalkov, but what the citizens and the American ambassador in the country expect Angela Ageler is for the Macedonian institutions to prosecute those who were on the list.

– Corruption, in any form, should not be tolerated in this country. Those who undermine the rule of law for personal gain and at the expense of the people of North Macedonia should realize that corruption has consequences. So as the United States continues to hold corrupt actors accountable, I hope the judiciary and law enforcement structures in this country will do the same. The citizens of this country deserve nothing less - Ambassador Ageler said.

She also commented on the reactions on social networks that, although the USA put many politicians on the "black list", there are no charges against any of the "blackened" politicians, so she called on the Macedonian institutions to take measures. She was determined that the evidence is here, in the Macedonian institutions, and if Washington managed to provide it, the Macedonian institutions can too.

- We don't have to provide evidence or information to local institutions. The evidence is available. If we can find them, so can the Macedonian institutions. You have the Financial Police, Financial Intelligence, the Prosecutor's Office, you have judges and I think people in this country want to see results. We cannot control what the authorities will do. But we expect that there will be steps in that direction - said Ageler.

JO can act on a voice tap

Despite the suspicions of corruption for Grubi and judge Bezheti, which were confirmed by the updated "black list", it has not yet been announced to the public that the Prosecutor's Office is conducting any proceedings against either Grubi or judge Bezheti. "Sloboden Pechat" sent questions to the Prosecutor's Office about whether any proceedings are being conducted against these persons and how the Prosecutor's Office will act after the American Embassy announced that they took bribes.

But the Prosecutor's Office did not answer our questions.

The Coalition "All for a fair trial" told "Sloboden Pechat" that the public prosecutor's office can open an investigation at any moment after a tip-off if there is a suspicion of a crime committed.

- The US "blacklist" is a mechanism used by the US government to sanction individuals, organizations or countries that are found to be participating in activities that are contrary to US national interests, that is, it is an administrative procedure based on US laws and valid in the United States. In this particular case, the public prosecutor's office can at any moment open an investigation after a tip-off if there is a suspicion of a crime being committed - say the Coalition.

The President Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova considers that the persons who have been on the "black list" of the USA should not continue with regular activities and called on the public prosecutors to act on the basis of these lists as well, which are supported by facts and evidence.

- There are ways in international law and mutual relations to get to that evidence and start a procedure here, because otherwise we don't react when we have to react and thus tolerate lawlessness. I expect the court, the public prosecutor to start acting - said Davkova.

She also highlighted as a worrisome moment the fact that the name of a Macedonian judge was on the US list, because, as she said, the court should be synonymous with respect for law and justice. According to her, one should start not only from the specific case, but also to see how everyone in the judicial system found themselves in certain positions. Davkova says that most of the blame lies with the two most important bodies – the Judicial Council and the Council for Public Prosecutors, which should be the guardian and filter of the independence of the judiciary.

Begetti kept the object for nine months

She added that she cannot recall the members nominated by the President to the Judicial Council, because they were elected in the Assembly. According to its legal interpretations, Vesna Dameva she resigned from the presidency because her term as president had ended, although there was an eight-month hiatus when she was illegally removed. But Siljanovska emphasized that the one who replaced Dameva, mentioning the member of the Council, Selim Ademi,è she is still sitting in the Council, which according to her is impermissible and she expects resignations from all those who have not justified the trust of the citizens.

The Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski he said that the strategic partners and the international community confirmed what they said in the past.

- Two citizens from our country were on the updated list of US sanctions. You have there the reasons why they are part of this list of sanctions. I can say that in the period to come, many more confirmations of everything we had as suspicions will be released to the public and the public will be informed - said Mickoski.

Already in the pre-election campaign, but also when VMRO-DPMNE came to power, the main suspicions of crime were directed at Grubi. Judge Enver Bejeti, on the other hand, became known to the public after Dameva said publicly that because of the demand for responsibility and the non-promotion of Judge Bejeti, a "coup" was carried out and she was removed from the presidency.

However, the Trial Chamber found that Bezzetti, as a reporting judge, kept the Target-Fortress case in a drawer for months. Officially, the "Target" case, which refers to mass wiretapping, has become obsolete due to the scandalous amendments to the Criminal Code, but Bedzetti previously kept it in a drawer for nine months, so hypothetically there was a possibility that it could be completed before the amendments were passed. Despite this, the Judicial Council imposed only a disciplinary measure on him and he received a 20 percent lower salary for six months. Then he also ran for the post of Supreme Judge, but was not promoted.

An appeal was not announced after the "black list", and DUI and Grubi said that they will respect the decision of the US State Department.
