An African-American woman visited the Balkans and was disappointed: They touch me as if I were an animal!

Many can say that the Balkans are warm and hospitable people and that trips here are always a nice memory. However, that is not the experience of the African American woman Lena Sow (23), who shares her experiences on the TikTok platform.

She recently visited Serbia and is currently in Greece. The girl says that this trip "so far exhausted her the most - emotionally".

"It's hard to be here. I knew that, somewhat, this would be a challenge for me, but I did not expect that this would tire me so much. I try to be empathetic and try to understand that people here may not have seen a black man or black woman, but I'm tired of people staring at me all the time. They touch me, touch my skin, touch my head as if I am an animal. Leave me alone," she says in the video.

She claims people slow down their cars as they pass her, throw things at her and call her abusive and racist names.

"Not only the local population, sometimes the people from the hostel where I stay also annoy me. "You could tell some of them had never interacted with a black woman," she describes.

Also, Lena says that the locals didn't believe her that she was from the US.

"They asked me: 'Where are you from?', and as soon as I answered: 'USA', they answered: 'Really?' Can you believe me when I tell you that? Maybe it's not malicious, but it exhausts me that I have to prove that I'm a black woman from the United States," adds the girl.

She says some people believe she is from the US, but that's why they ask her about racism, and she says she doesn't want to think about the racist experiences she went through on vacation.

"Can I just exist as a black woman without anyone bothering me?" she asks.

She is especially bothered when the offensive n-word is used in her presence.

"You know that word shouldn't be used?" Why are you even asking me about it and acting like it's some cool word you can joke with your friends in front of me?'' she points out.

Lena is grateful for the trip and everything she saw, but says she is emotionally drained and can no longer enjoy herself.

"I have never felt like this before. I hope it gets better in the next five weeks while I'm here," she concludes in the video.

@sowonthego Don't get me wrong, I'm so SO grateful to be here and I've had some beautiful experiences but I think I've reached somewhat of a breaking point :/ #travel #traveltok #solotravel #solofemaletraveler #blackgirltiktok #blacktravel #blackwomentravel #blacktravelfeed #blacksolotravel #bipoctravel #woctravel #travelingwhileblack ♬ original sound – Lena | Solo & Budget Travel
