Today, the Red Cross marked 78 years since its foundation, and a donor campaign was held to collect aid for the areas affected by the catastrophic earthquakes in Turkey and Syria. Prime Minister Dimitar Kovacevski, ministers, MPs, representatives of the diplomatic corps, representatives of international organizations, representatives of the local government, representatives of companies, as well as supporters of the Red Cross were present at the event.

The goal of today's action was to secure one million euros, and it was achieved, thus completing the humanitarian aid for both countries.

Seventy-eight years of humanitarianism, solidarity, sacrifice, endurance, alleviating human suffering and reaching out to everyone and everywhere. And, with the same selfless advocacy for these lasting values, I wish the Red Cross to continue for many, many more years, Prime Minister Kovacevski said in his address.

He informed that the Government has made a decision to approve the budget funds for 2022, in the amount of over 243.000 euros, as financial assistance for acting in emergency situations. This year, a decision was made to finance the Annual Program of the Red Cross of the Republic of North Macedonia, in the amount of about 98.000 euros and funds in the amount of over 32.000 euros for the realization of a project for rest and recreation for children from families with social risk and child beneficiaries on a special allowance for summer vacation 2023.

He made a call to the citizens to get involved in today's donation drive and help the areas affected by the earthquakes.

The General Secretary of the Red Cross of the Republic of North Macedonia, Sait Saiti, emphasized that today, undoubtedly, the work of the Red Cross is more relevant and necessary than ever.

The world today resembles a ship sailing on a turbulent sea, with many inequalities, exploitation, humiliation, intimidation, wars, natural disasters and human migrations as a result of economic, political, social and climatic conditions. The basic reason that characterizes all these situations is the lack of humanity and respect, says Saiti in the address.

He thanked all those who invested and supported the organization and said that humanity and solidarity continue to be a guide and inspiration in order to make a positive difference in people's lives.

The Turkish ambassador, Hasan Mehmet Sekizocok, in his address, expressed his gratitude for the help

United in one heart, public institutions, the non-governmental sector, the business community, educational institutions, young and old, all helped the victims of the affected regions. We cannot bring back the lives lost... But we will work with all possible strength to heal the wounds of this natural disaster. We will rebuild the destroyed cities and schools. You have shared our great sorrow. You, in your powerful solidarity, also share the hope of the Turkish people for the reconstruction of the affected regions. The Turkish people will remember your love and solidarity with gratitude, the ambassador said.
