A significant increase, even above the 7,75 percent corresponding to that of the old pensions paid from January 1, 2023, will have thousands of policyholders if they apply for retirement during the year.

The sharp increase in inflation in the past year has resulted in the pension income of potential retirees for the years 2002 to 2022 being calculated on the basis of 9,6 per cent, leading to a significant increase in the contributory pension. At the same time, the national pension is increasing by 7,75 percent, writes Kathimerini.

Already in the first four months of the year, thousands of insured persons applied for retirement, and experts estimate that by the end of the year, they will exceed 220.000. Due to high inflation, pension income for the years 2002 to 2022 will be calculated on the basis of 9,6 percent.

For teachers in particular, it is estimated that nearly 4.500 teachers are expected to leave this year, about the same as those who retired in 2022. Of course, these will be accepted and the teachers' employment will automatically end at the end of August.
